Accessibility

What we aim for

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, at Level AA. That is the standard most commonly used to judge whether a website in the United States is usable by people with disabilities.

We are not claiming a clean bill of health. No outside auditor has signed this site off, and anyone who tells you their website is perfectly accessible has usually not tested it. What follows is what was actually done and what was not.

What has been done

• Every part of the site can be operated with a keyboard alone, including the menu and the quote form. Nothing needs a mouse.
• The keyboard focus outline is always visible and never removed, so you can see where you are on the page.
• Text contrast was measured rather than eyeballed, against every background colour the site actually uses, and meets WCAG AA.
• If your system is set to reduce motion, every animation on the site turns off. Nothing fades, slides or staggers.
• Content is never hidden behind an animation. With JavaScript switched off, every word on the site is still there and the quote form still works.
• Every image carries a description written for it. The build refuses to finish if one is missing.
• The layout does not scroll sideways down to a 360 pixel wide screen, and text can be enlarged without pieces disappearing.
• Form fields have real labels, errors are announced rather than only coloured red, and the error text says what to do.

What has not been done yet

• The site has not yet been tested end to end with a screen reader by someone who uses one daily. That is the honest gap and it is the next thing on the list.
• It has not been audited by an outside accessibility specialist.
• The quote form hands your message to your own mail program. How that program behaves is outside our control.

If something does not work for you

Tell us and we will fix it. You do not need to know the technical term for the problem, and you do not need to prove anything. Saying which page it was and what you were trying to do is plenty. Ask for Zackery LeBeau.

If a part of this website is in your way and you need the same information another way, we will simply give it to you over the phone or in an email, and we will not make you wait for the fix.
